The main thing for the designer – to create things.

September 24, 2020

Embracing the Essence of Design

In the world of design, true elegance lies in the ability to create. Modern design rejects amateurish attempts and instead seeks those who can infuse a touch of beauty into everything they touch. The best designers are not just image-makers but dreamers and storytellers who bring their visions to life through thoughtful and meaningful creations. For me, the narrative behind a design is often more important than its form.

The Designer as an Interpreter

A designer must serve as an interpreter, bridging the gap between the real and virtual worlds. They must anticipate the unspoken needs and questions of people, revealing solutions through their work. Design, to me, is synonymous with the quality of life. It transcends transient trends and superficial fashion phenomena. According to Antonio Citterio, designers should aim to create more than mere objects; they should strive to improve lives.

The Future of Minimalism

Minimalism has reached its peak. The future path is uncertain, but one thing remains clear: a designer’s primary goal is to create things that bring personal and client satisfaction. Understanding the client’s desires and merging them with one’s own vision and capabilities is crucial. To create something truly outstanding, enthusiasm and collaboration from both parties are essential. I am fortunate to have worked with wonderful clients who have significantly contributed to my success.

Principles of Good Design

  • Functionality: Design is not just about appearance; it’s about how it works.
  • Innovation: Good design introduces new and creative ideas.
  • Minimalism: A good design is as minimal as possible, focusing on the essential.
  • Aesthetics: Good design should be visually pleasing and evoke positive emotions.

Content Before Form

When creating, focus on the content you want to infuse into the object. The spirit of the design, unlike its form, cannot be replicated. Design is a process of investing meaning and purpose into every creation.

Fighting Against the Mundane

“I want to create beautiful things, even if they aren’t necessary for anyone, as a fight against ugly things. This is my intention.”

The Design Triad: Fast, Cheap, and Good

In any design project, you can choose only two of the following: fast, cheap, and good. If it’s fast and cheap, it won’t be good. If it’s cheap and good, it won’t be fast. If it’s good and fast, it won’t be cheap. This principle underscores the importance of balancing quality, time, and cost.

Conclusion

Design is about more than creating objects; it’s about bringing joy, beauty, and functionality into people’s lives. By focusing on the essence of design and embracing the principles of good design, we can create meaningful and impactful works. The main thing for a designer is to create—to infuse life, spirit, and purpose into every project, ensuring that it resonates deeply and stands the test of time.
